Carrot Mezcal Michelada

This carrot mezcal michelada is a playful, seasonal twist on the classic—bright, savory, and just a little smoky. Instead of traditional tomato juice, I’m using carrot juice to keep that subtle sweetness while adding a fresher, earthier flavor profile. You can juice your own carrots, but I often reach for Lakewood Organic’s premade version for ease. Mezcal brings a smoky depth that pairs beautifully with the carrot (this recipe is made in partnership with Dos Hombres, whose mezcal I love using here), though tequila works just as well if that’s more your style. It’s easy to batch for a crowd and guaranteed to wow guests at your next gathering.

Servings: 1 drink

Equipment:

  • Cocktail shaker

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Dos Hombres mezcal

  • 1 oz Mexican lager

  • 2 oz carrot juice

  • 1 oz lime juice

  • 1 tablespoon chamoy

  • 1 tablespoon tajin

  • 1 cup ice

  • 1 orange slice

Method:

  1. Rim a rocks glass with the chamoy and tajin. Fill halfway with ice and set aside.

  2. Add the mezcal, carrot juice, lime juice, and remaining ice to a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds until very cold and combined. Strain the mixture into the rocks glass until halfway full.

  3. Top with the Mexican lager and garnish with the orange slice. Enjoy!
